One thing that is certain is that NBC wants to keep Jay Leno around for a while. Late night comedy is something that I have always loved. I grew up watching Jay Leno on The Tonight Show every night. I always remember that Conan would come on after Jay and by that time I was already half asleep. Late Night with Conan O’Brian was always full of laughs and had terrific guests, but I rarely watched it because it didn’t start until 12:30. In early 2009 NBC announced that Conan O’Brian was going to take over the Tonight Show and Jay was going to step down. A few months after this announcement, Jay decided to create The Jay Leno Show. The show was planned to air at 10:00 P.M. weeknights on NBC. Once June rolled around Conan took over The Tonight Show and things were going really well. In September Jay Leno began his new show. After a few months both shows ratings were not that great, but the shows continued.
With the start of the New Year NBC announced they were pulling the plug on the Jay Leno Show. As soon as that was announced you would have though an earthquake hit NBC. Everyone was talking about what was going to happen to Conan. Some reports said Leno would have a half hour show that would lead into The Tonight Show at 12:05, but Conan did not approve. Once Conan announced that 12:05 was not going to work, rumors started flying that Conan was moving to FOX. Nothing has been finalized yet, but it looks like Jay Leno will take over The Tonight Show again and Conan will be moving to another network.
So many people are trying to figure out what NBC should do. If you ask me it looks like they are heading in the right direction. Jay Leno always brought in good ratings at 11:35 and people always enjoyed the show with him as the host. There is really no simple way out of this disaster. Some people are upset that Conan is getting tossed after only seven months, but NBC took a chance of putting Jay on primetime. I think they always knew that if Leno failed they would just put him right back where he was. Here is another way to look at this situation. Say Conan O’Brian was on at 11:35 for years and then he moved to the 10 P.M. slot. If he failed in that time slot, NBC would put him back at 11:35. The new guy is always going to get tossed first. I really enjoy both Conan and Jay, but I think NBC is doing the best thing possible. I look forward to Leno returning to The Tonight Show after the Olympics. I truly hope that Conan does get a deal with another network because he has a bright future ahead.
Putting Leno back on Tonight Show would be the smartest move
January 15, 2010Kanye West deserves to be upset, and some thoughts on Leno’s new show
September 16, 2009I am sure you have already heard a million times that Kanye West stole the spotlight away from Taylor Swift during the Video Music Awards on Sunday. Now there is a lot of uproar about the incident. Taylor Swift was accepting her award for the female video of the year award when Kanye got up on the stage and told the audience that Beyonce had the best female video. Taylor was in shock after this and couldn’t even finish her speech. Now if you ask me that was down right rude of West to interrupt Taylor and steal the spotlight away from her. Kanye must have never learned the concept of waiting your turn to speak. Kanye was on the Jay Leno Show Monday and he apologized for the incident and he plans to apologize personally to Taylor Swift, but in my opinion that is still no enough.
West also told Leno that he plans to take some time off from his music and think about his life. He needs to take some time and think about what he did. You know you messed up when even the president of the United States is mad at you. Kanye showed no respect at all for Taylor, but he has done things like this before in the past. Kanye is sorry, but in my opinion his apology was weak and he is holding his feelings inside. Another thing to consider is his music career. This incident may turn some people away from his music. All I have to say is that Kanye is a jerk for this move and I hope he learns a lesson from all of this.
JAY LENO SHOW
Monday was the premier of the new Jay Leno Show on NBC. I really am enjoying the show so far. I thought Jay did a great job of mixing in comedy skits with guests. I really enjoyed the fact that Leno brought back his old band and some of the features of the Tonight Show. The first night of headlines was great and Jay plans to do Jaywalking later this week. The earlier time slot will allow a lot more people to watch the new show. I also thought Jay did a nice job of putting a lot of comedy into one hour. The new show seems to be a hit and I think it will do very well in the coming months.
